The
World Ethics Congress
The conference will take place on the 100th year anniversary of the
remarkable Russian orientalist George Roerich who was a member of
the Roerichs' family, brought a huge contribution in the search for
the Russian national idea, opening the Eastern paths, the growth of
self-awareness, uniting people in the whole world, raising and supporting
the understanding of culture as a sacred stronghold of humanity.
The aims of the conference:
- Examination of Russia as a special moral-psychological, geopolitical
and cultural power of the world
- Search and study of the Russian experience in spiritual, cultural
and social spheres as a main feature and basic competitiveness of
Russia in the modern world
- Study of the influence of the Roerichs' family, their eastern quest
in light of traditional Russian and St. Petersburg spiritual and scientific
searches for understanding
- Examination of Nicholas Roerich's concept of culture, Roerich's
Pact and the idea of the World League of Culture in light of tasks
of Russian national state policy in the field of Culture (including
education, science and art) and state social construction in terms
of globalization
- Interpreting the enormous contributions of the Roerichs' in the
enrichment of Russian and St. Petersburg spiritual and historical
traditions in the period just before the 300th anniversary of the
founding of the city of St. Petersburg.
In the framework of working out the Roerich's approach the organizers
of the conference plan to lead sessions and round tables in the following
basic directions:
- The search for the Russian national idea in global world process
- The place and role of Russian spiritual culture in uniting East
and West
- Education, science and art: cultural pole of humanity
- International cultural initiatives
- George Roerich and vital questions of oriental studies.
Date and place.
Tver session: August 13, 2002 (Tver, the Hall of the Legislative
Assembly);
Valday session: August 14-16 (Vyshny Volochok-Okulovka);
Petersburg session: October 9-11, 2002 (St. Petersburg, St.Petersburg
State University, the building of Twelve Boards, the Assembly Hall and
the Petrovsky Hall).
The opening of the memorial desk will take place on August 16 at 10.00
a.m. in Okulovka - the place of birth of George Roerich. The excursion
around the places where the Roerichs' lived and worked has been planned.
The grand meeting devoted to the 100th anniversary of outstanding Russian
orientalist George Roerich will be held on October 9, at 4.30 p.m. in
the Petrovsky Hall (the building of Twelve Boards).
The organizers of the conference:

- International Charity Fund "The Roerich Heritage"
with participation of the Committee on culture and the Committee on
Science and Higher School of the Authorities of St. Petersburg, Legislative
Assemblies of St. Petersburg and Tver region, St. Petersburg department
of the World Leauge of Culture and others.

- the Vice-chairman of the Committee on culture of the Authorities
of St. Petersburg Viktor Vorotnikov,
- the Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the second calling Igor
Matveyev,
- the head of the Personnel of the Legislative Assembly of Tver region
President of the Tver region social organization "Center for
Spiritual Culture" Vladimir Samuylov,
- President of the International Association "Peace Through
Culture Europe" Wilhelm Augustat,
- the Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences Svetlana
Ikonnikova,
- the senior research worker of the Institute on Material Culture
of the Russian Academy of Science Anatoly Kirpichnikov
and others.
We are inviting every person/organization to participate in the work
of the conference. The edition of the works of the conference has been
planned.
The application form to participate in the work of the conference should
be submitted by June 25 for the Tver and Valday sessions and by September
15 for the St. Petersburg session.
